About Me

Being a parent to my kiddo is my top priority. I find grounding and connection in nature, especially in forests, where I can reflect and self-regulate

Hi! I'm Tyler Schaus (they/he) and I am a White, queer, trans guy with German (paternal) and British (maternal) ancestry, who as an uninvited settler has been living on the unceded lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən, Wyomilth, and WSÁNEĆ peoples, for the past 19 years.

Prior to settling out West, I lived on the traditional unceded and unsurrendered territories of the: Ojibway, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dene, and Dakota, (colonially known as Winnipeg, MB), the Anishinaabe Algonquin People (colonially known as Perth, ON.), and the Three Fires Confederacy: the Odawa, Potawatami, and Ojibwe. Anishinaabeg and Lunaapeew (colonially known as Chatham-Kent, ON).

With over 25 years in the helping profession, I have experience working with youth and adults who are navigating experiences of trauma, violence, substance use, gender identity, gender expression, neurodivergence, sexuality, complex mental health challenges, and life transitions.

I have a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). I am committed to ongoing professional development to ensure I show up in the best way possible for participants.

I believe an important part to healing is humor, it has supported me through many challenges and life transitions and I have seen how it can also strengthen the therapeutic relationship when woven into sessions.

When not working, you can find me trying to finish puzzles I've started. Listening to music - music is life! Playing board or card games with friends & family. Resting. Going on adventures with my kiddo.
